Picture Book Education (Add-ons)

Does your child like to read, talk, play, watch, and breathe football? Ever wonder where the saying, "Here's one for the Gipper!" comes from? Here's a book that's "in season."
Win One for the Gipper by Kathy-Jo Wargin/ Bruce Langton

Is your child(ren) studying the Civil War? Or have an interest in that conflict?

What about a story of a woman who entertained her children with bread dough sculptures then, upon the death of her husband, had to use that domestic ability to make a living for them all? She went on to use her talents to not only make a living for her family but also to spy for the American Revolution. Read where she hid her information and how it was delivered to the colonies. True story!
Patience Wright: American Sculptor and Revolutionary Spy by Pegi Deitz Shea/ Bethanne Andersen

We're doing World War II this year and I've discovered another picture book from a child's perspective. Poignant.

We enjoyed a great Great Depression unit study last year. I love it when I come across a book we missed during our study and can add it to our collection of personal information.

I know you know the song, but do you know anything about the life and times of the man who wrote it?

I hope you enjoy spending time with these beautiful books. Such a delightful way to learn about history, people, and the times they lived in.
